McDonnell-Douglas Information Systems is expanding in the UK communications market with a string of new products this quarter, with ‘Tymnet on a board’ leading the way. The UK company, which was ordained to be the US giant’s international headquarters, claims that it is growing at 20% to 30% a year and that although its efforts in the communications market currently represents only about 20% of turnover, a much lower proportion than in the US, it aims to increase this considerably over the next year. McDonnell dropped its plans to play a major role in UK value added networking a year ago when it abandoned its Edinet venture with British Telecom in December 1986, in mutual dissatisfaction.
