McData Corp of Broomfield, Colorado, has announced that TCP/IP support is now available for its LinkMaster 6100E Ethernet-to-SNA channel server, which means that its LinkMaster 6100E network processer now supports Unix systems as well as DEC systems. McData has been working hard this year to diversify away from its reliance on the IBM terminal-to-mainframe communications on which it had built its business. The LinkMaster 6100E attaches directly to one or two IBM mainframe channels and up to six Ethernet Local Area Networks. Unix and DEC systems on the Ethernet network can then gain access to IBM 3270 mainframe applications. The 6100E provides all the necessary hardware and software to make this connection. The 6100E also supports IBM’s network management system, NetView. The base price of the LinkMaster 6100E is $26,250. TCP/IP support costs $5,000, while local area transport support is $15,000.
