The devices, which come in three varieties with increasing levels of speed and throughput, provide virus-scanning, content filtering and, with an optional SpamKiller upgrade, spam filtering.

Product marketing manager Mick Paddington said the new software has better policy support that its predecessors. Administrators can import LDAP directories and apply policies to groups and users, rather than just globally.

You might want your marketing department to be able to download Powerpoint presentations, but don’t want anyone else in the company to do that, Paddington said.

Also new is a dashboard feature and forensic tools, Paddington said, that allows administrators to see how many spams and viruses are being sent, to who, and what and how much traffic is being received.
