Entercept 5.1 has had a lot of the agent-server chatter reduced. By radically cutting down on SNMP messages, 96% of the network traffic the software produced has been eliminated, product marketing manager Patrick Bedwell said. This can also reduce the size of the logs of any intermediary network firewall, he said.

The new version has also had its behavioral and signature-based intrusion detection functions tweaked to reduce false positives that could occur under certain circumstances, Bedwell said. There had been some instances of false positives when Entercept was running side-by-side with McAfee’s antivirus software.

Version 5.1 also officially supports Windows XP Service Pack 2, Microsoft’s security-heavy update to the operating system, for the first time. Some extra customization features have also been added to enable compatibility with certain types of custom user applications, Bedwell said.
