McAfee plans to integrate SafeBoot technology into ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO), its centralized management console for enterprise customers. According to McAfee, SafeBoot’s mobile phone offerings will enhance its current mobile solutions. Gerhard Watzinger, chief executive at SafeBoot, will lead the newly-established data protection product business unit.

With the acquisition of SafeBoot, McAfee becomes a leader in the fast-growing $1 billion encryption market and we will be able to offer a complete data protection solution, said Dave DeWalt, chief executive and president at McAfee. The combination of SafeBoot’s policy-driven encryption with McAfee’s host and network data loss prevention solutions helps customers meet the complex challenges of protecting their confidential information, even on lost or stolen laptops and mobile devices.

McAfee has been concentrating on the data loss prevention market. In September 2007, it released McAfee data loss prevention (DLP) host 2.0, which includes device management and integration with McAfee ePO for accidental and malicious data loss prevention. McAfee also launched its data loss prevention solution in April 2007.
