Lake Mary, Florida-based Maynard Electronics Inc, part of the Archive Corp package on its way to Conner Peripherals Inc, is diversifying from its core tape subsystem business with the launch of the MaynStream 1000MO system, a 1Gb magneto-optical data management system for Novell Inc NetWare networks. With MaynStream NLM software, the 1000MO offers superior reliability for long-term data storage, as well as high-speed, on-line retrieval of network data. Designed primarily for networks in corporate and government sites, the MaynStream MO system is a SCSI-based erasable optical drive that can be mounted either as a removable storage system under NetWare or be treated as a back-up device using the company’s NetWare Loadable Module. As a removable device, it offers average file search time of 47.7mS and data transfer rate of 1M-byte per second. As a back-up device it offers average file search time of five seconds, and a data transfer rate of 267K-bytes per second. The MaynStream 1000MO will be available within the next 60 days with a suggested list price of $6,500. There is no word on whose optical disk drive is being used, but the company will assuredly be buying one in on the OEM market.
