Matsushita Electronics Corp – in which Philips NV is a major investor – plans to start volume production of 4M-bit memory chips in Japan by the end of the year; Toshiba Corp has already said that it will be manufacturing 100,000 4Ms a month this summer; Matsushita is also planning to make 2m 1Ms a month.
