MATSUSHITA TO RESUME EXPORTS OF PERSONALIKEAGREE

By CBR Staff Writer

A year after halting production of its Personalikes following its admission that the BIOS infringed IBM copyrights – and paying IBM a hefty fine – Matsushita Electric Industrial Co is to resume exports of the things, to Europe but not to the US, where they would be hit by the 100% punitive tariff imposed in connection with the US-Japan semiconductor accord: the machines will be sold by an unidentified company which is taking them under an OEM contract; the company could be Nokia Information Systems, which in its Ericsson incarnation took laptop Personalikes from Matsushita.
