Matsushita Electric Co reckons it will be the first company to bring DVD-RAM drives and disks onto the market, under its Panasonic brand name. The Panasonic LF-D101 internal drive with SCSI interface can read from and write to disks with a maximum, double sided capacity of 5.2Gb, and should be available in the US and Japan from January of next year, with a suggested retail price of $800. Disks will retail at $40 for 5.2Gb, or $25 for the single sided, 2.6Gb version. Cost per megabyte is said to be less than one cent.
