Matsushita Electric Industrial Co Ltd has unveiled an internet multiple-location videoconferencing system able to link up to nine remote locations simultaneously. The system, which will be available from next month, has overcome several technical challenges which have prevented internet multiple-location videoconferencing in the past, according to a Matsushita official. He said the system is based on picture compression and expansion using technology related to MPEG.
Conference participants access a videoconferencing room with their web browser, and are able to alter the pictures of other participants by sharpening focus or moving them around the screen. The system requires a Windows NT 4.0 server and either Windows NT 4.0 Workstation PCs running Windows 98 as client machines.
