It is beginning to look as if the 4 Mbit memory chip will be stillborn and that Japan will go direct from 1M to 16M dynamic RAMs. The announcement by NTT that it had designed a 16M part has fired the gun and Matsushita says it will start sampling a faster 16M in September.
