Mass Microsystems Inc, headquartered in Sunnyvale, California has introduced the DataPak MO/128, a new 3.5 magneto-optical drive for the Macintosh that offers 128Mb of storage on a 3.5 removable, erasable optical disk cartridge: the MO/128 has a capacity of 128Mb with an average access time of 30mS; the DataPak MO/128 is compatible with all Macintosh computers and it will be available as an internal drive for Apple Computer Inc’s new Macintosh Quadra 900; the external drive costs $1,800 and the internal configuration is $1,500 with the cartridges costing $129 each; the magneto-optical drives use a laser read-write system and the external drives will include external SCSI termination, push-button SCSI identification selection as well as software utilities for formatting, partitioning and diagnostics.
