Marubeni Corp is teaming up with Carnegie Group Inc of Pittsburgh and Japanese start-up Intelligent Technology Inc to form an artificial intelligence sales and service company with the provisional name of AI Centre, planned to open for business in April 1988: AI Center will market software developed with the aid of expert system tools and natural languages developed by Carnegie and Intelligent Tech; it will also bring in artificial intelligence applications – financial consultation, fault diagnosis, plant control, technical control systems – being developed in the US, and will also develop application software jointly with users, and market the results; the Japanese have become artificial intelligence junkies, but there is still a dearth of applications, notes our Tokyo correspondent.
