Following its deal with Corel Corp, last week (CI No 3,081) Marimba Inc has set up a similar deal with Dimension X Inc which the pair say means developers will soon be able to deliver multimedia applications via Castanet. San Francisco’s Dimension X will produce a Castanet Edition of the Liquid Motion Pro multimedia development tool, with content integrated into presentations and applications, and then published to Castanet channels. Pricing and availability will be announced some time this quarter. A clutch of other similar Marimba tie-ins are expected this quarter and the next, and the company is also developing other ways of distributing software and information, including a proxy server and a repeater server. Marimba also begins bringing in cash this week, as the low-end version of the Castanet transmitter begins selling for $1,000 and the Bongo development tool for $500. The Castanet Tuner client software remains free of charge.
