IBM wants its manufacturing software users to move onto MAPICS/DB on the AS/400, and as from April 30 1990, will withdraw upgrades from System/34 MAPICS, System/36 MAPICS, System/36 MAPICS II, System/36 5363 MAPICS II, and System/38 MAPICS licensed programs to AS/400 MAPICS II licensed programs. Upgrades to AS/400 MAPICS/DB will still be available. The announcement is accompanied by news that AS/400 MAPICS/DB Sales Analysis, Capacity Requirements Planning, Financial Analysis, Master Production Schedule Planning, Purchasing, Forecasting, and Production Monitoring and Control are now available. IBM says that the new MAPICS/DB enables MAPICS customers to capitalise on the traditional strengths of the MAPICS II integrated applications, and to take advantage of the relational database and architecture of the AS/400. In a statement of direction, it says it intends to provide support for an interface between the Productmanager and AS/400 MAPICS/DB. Licences for the latter are available for processor groups D5 to K5, and the primary licence charges for processor group D5 range between $2,900 and $3,870. Licences for the K5 start at $7,300 rising to $9,680. Annual licences for the D5 start at $400 and go up to $1,100. K5 annual licences range between $1,000 and $2,760. The company has also increased basic and distributed systems licence option one-time charges, program upgrade charges, monthly licence charges for COPICS and MAPICS for the System/34, System/36, System/38, and AS/400.
