MANUGISTICS: NICHE UNLESS BOUGHT, SAYS REPORT

By CBR Staff Writer

Meta Group doesn’t believe Manugistics Inc stands much of a chance on its own. Having announced it was no longer seeking to be acquired and purging its management, the supply chain concern has said it will focus on three areas: consumer packaged goods (CPG), automotive, and enterprise business collaboration. Meta believes that while Manugistics’ CPG initiative remains viable, we believe the company will be unable to build a sustainable automotive vertical (versus i2 and SAP), and it is unlikely to generate a strong pipeline as an enterprise collaboration engine. It thinks Manugistics will either be acquired or become a niche CPG planning vendor.
