Mannesmann AG’s electronics diversification built around Kienzle, Tally and Hartmann & Braun grew 10% in the first quarter of 1988 to the equivalent of $300m, but remains a tiny part of the steel giant’s business – total turnover in the first quarter was $2,738m, so computers and electronics are just 10.9% of the total: the company does say that it is looking for substantial non-steel acquisitions in the US.
