Judging by its fourth quarter figures, Management Sceince America Inc found the last few months of a disappointing year particularly troublesome. Despite attempts by chairman John Imlay to attribute the company’s difficulties to recent restructuring, a fourth quarter loss of $8.7m remains outstanding, even when the recasting charges are taken into account. MSA UK’s sales and marketing chief Edward Holt admits that the figures are not as strong as previous fourth quarter results, but claims that, with a number of new deals now under its belt, the company will report a strong first quarter in the current financial year. Meanwhile, in the UK, MSA saw turnover rise 8% to around UKP9m, despite a number of mid-term difficulties. This, in turn, enables the subsidiary to claim that its turnover per employee contribution now stands at UKP100,000. It also says that its annual turnover contributed approximately $17m – around 6.5% – to corporate revenues, and is by far the most profitable part of the parent’s international operations.
