It’s kinda tough running a business school these days – no sooner had the devisers of Masters of Business Administration Course taken on board Hewlett-Packard Co’s brilliant new management concept developed in the 1980s called MBWA it came up with a completely new one – the Board of Directors – no not that kind of board of directors, this one is made up of the key people involved on every aspect of a product development from design through manufacturing to documentation, sales and marketing, with key changes in the product specification resulting from input from people that would never normally be asked: it’s so successful that according to the Wall Street Journal one manager commented that most of us get our work done in the evenings and on weekends – our time at the plant is mostly ‘people time’; and what does old hat MBWA stand for? Management By Wandering Around.
