The management of EEMS Italia SpA, a company that provides packaging, testing and module assembly services to the semiconductor industry, has acquired the company from Hong Kong-based investor Li Tung Lok for L100bn ($55m).

Rieti-based EEMS builds DRAM and flash memory modules for use in the IT, automotive and telecoms sectors. The acquisition, backed by Schroder Ventures, was carried out with a view to upgrading and expanding the company’s production capacity, as well as to establish deeper relationships with our customers, said president and CEO Enzo D’Antonio.

EEMS started life as a unit of Texas Instruments and was acquired by Li Tung Lok in 1994. It has since been transformed into a ‘merchant’, or third party, subcontractor for customers such as Siemens, IBM and SGS-Thompson. It claims to be the world’s only provider of integrated back-end outsourced services for memory products.
