Most people experience loneliness without access to the Internet, even for short durations, found a new study by consumer research firm Intersperience.

The study in which over 1,000 people participated found that while 53% feel upset when denied access, 40% feel lonely without access to the Internet, reported The Daily Mail.

Some respondents even said that giving up technology that connected them to the Web world was similar to quitting drinking or smoking.

Only a few people, 1%, said that they would feel liberated without modern gadgets with Internet connection.

Recently a study from the Nominet Trust found that an overwhelming majority of parents fear their children are getting addicted to social networking site Facebook.

Four-out-of-five parents, participating in the study, feared that their children will become addicted to Facebook, while one-in-three parents think the Internet can ‘rewire’ the minds of children without their knowledge.

The study also said however that there was no neurological evidence to back up these fears.
