Majority of CIOs simplified IT processes by migrating to hybrid cloud environment

CIOs believe hybrid cloud environments will reduce complexity and increase flexibility

By CBR Staff Writer

A survey conducted by Wakefield Research on behalf of SAP has found that more than 70% of chief information officers (CIOs) simplified their IT processes by migrating to the hybrid cloud environment.

The survey was conducted on 52 US-based CIOs, 22 respondents were from Fortune 1000 companies and, 30 respondents were from companies in the Inc. 5000 Fastest Growing Companies in America.

About 87% of the surveyed feel that cloud solutions are important to their business while 83% give importance to on-premise solutions.

The survey found that 67% of CIOs, who use cloud applications, have already adopted some hybrid tools and 75% of hybrid users feel their company’s IT processes are less complex after migration.

The CIOs said that integrations between on-premise and cloud applications are gaining steam and the hybrid approach enables employees who work off-site to access data.

About 52% of CIOs said on-premise solutions are more secure than cloud-based and institutional barriers are prominent for 75% of non-hybrid cloud CIOs.

Gartner analyst Nigel Rayner said the allure of the cloud means many organisations are adopting cloud-based applications that augment on-premises ERP and are increasingly moving core elements of ERP to the cloud.

"CIOs and ERP leaders need to be prepared with an integration strategy that anticipates this world of hybrid ERP," Rayner said.

SAP said it is collaborating with CIOs to build cloud strategies that protect and leverage existing investments in on-premise applications while offering business flexibility.

Last month, a study sponsored by NTT Europe has found that about 81% of CIOs believe their own ICT architecture is the greatest hurdle to cloud adoption.
