The new firm, to be known as BDO Spicers, will have 17 partners and a total of 180 staff.

Robert Knox, the managing partner of BDO Auckland, says the merger will put BDO Spicers in the top tier of the accounting firms in New Zealand.

This is a great fit for us. Both firms provide a wide range of accounting and advisory services, specialising in growing businesses. By combining our expertise, we will be able to increase our investment in IT, HR and staff education, leading to an increased range of services for clients and a better working environment for staff, said Knox.

Spicer’s senior partner Keith Smith says it is possible the two firms could also combine their operations in the rest of the country. Initially it is just the Auckland offices that are merging, but we are in discussions now about bringing all the other offices under the one umbrella too, he said. I am excited about this merger and the capabilities it will give us to continue helping our clients grow. Furthermore, the rapid growth of both firms means that we will be recruiting additional staff to join the team in the near future, said Smith.
