Microsoft is updating its gaming console Xbox One with new functionalities, which will be initially available to users who have opted for a preview programme.

One of the new features include the ability to turn on and off the console through Smartglass app via Windows Phone and Android devices.

Users will have to update Xbox One SmartGlass Beta app from the Windows Phone Store or from Google Play to enable the feature after it rolls out.

Xbox Wire cited Xbox Live Programming director Larry Hryb as saying: "The beta versions of the Xbox One SmartGlass apps for Windows, Windows Phone and Android will be updated to let you turn your Xbox One on and off. (Your device does need to be on the same home network as your console.)

"This feature request has more than 4,000 votes on the Xbox Feedback site."

Other significant updates include Miracast support to allow users to cast photos and videos from their Android phones, Windows phones, and Windows PCs to the console, and also to mirror a screen.

Microsoft is planning to add a new feature, Game bar, which will facilitate players to take screenshots of the game and capture clips easily.

The update is also likely to bring TV tuner, which will enable players to stream content to tablets, phones, and PCs.
