Madge Networks Ltd was on cloud nine last Friday when the English High Court ruled that the Soderblom token ring patent was invalid, but the company immediately came down to earth with a bump, finding that it had to recall all its 16Mbps token ring adaptors, which only started shipping last month: its continuing tests of the dual-speed 16Mbps and 4Mbps adaptors have revealed a problem that limits the number of computers that can connect to an IBM-compatible tokening network when the adaptors are operated at the full 16Mbps rate.
