An important agreement was announced by Philips Semiconductors Inc of Sunnyvale, California and Metrowerks Inc of Austin, Texas, on the development of new software programming tools for Philips’ TriMedia multimedia processor, which improves the delivery of real-time graphic, audio and video quality for Mac OS systems. Apple will probably be using the TriMedia co-processor in some of its machines this year (CI No 3,018), and by integrating the TriMedia development tools into Metrowerks’ CodeWarrior software development environment, third-party developers will be able to bring out new products which make full use of the new chip’s potential more speedily.
