Taiwanese non-volatile memory chipmaker Macronix International Co Ltd has signed a technology transfer license with Intel Corp which it says will enhance its position in the system-on-chip market. Macronix will license Intel’s 80C196, 80C251 and 80C51 cores and install them on its existing system-on-chip building block library. Macronix says by combining the Intel cores with customers’ system logic, it can use its own embedded Flash, OTP and ROM memory processes to give customers complete systems on a chip. The dual Taiwan and Nasdaq-listed company claims these new systems will enable its customers to build systems quicker and increase time to market. Macronix’ president, Miin Wu said he foresees further relationships developing between his company and Intel over time.
