Macromedia Inc has been putting the final touches to the new professional digital video editing, compositing and effects software it’s calling Final Cut, and has been previewing the new tools at the NAB show in Las Vegas this week. According to Macromedia, Final Cut will be the first of a new breed of open systems professional video software tools, running on Windows and Macintosh system software using Apple Computer Inc’s Quicktime technology. At the show it was demonstrated on Compaq hardware. The product will be aimed at professional broadcast and cable television, film and corporate video producers, and videographers and multimedia developers. Macromedia claims the product will offer more advanced technology and a fraction of the cost of rival turnkey systems from the likes of Avid, Scitex and D- Vision. Final Cut will be available in the first half of 1998 for Windows 95, Windows NT and Apple Power Macs.
