This summer Macomnet, Moscow completed the laying a 156-mile long optical fibre network along Moscow’s metro tunnel system, with 155 communication nodes on the surface to facilitate the connection of new customers, all enabling customers to use the full range of digital communication services. Macomnet says it now has around 10 major customers, including foreign firms and Russian commercial banks. Established as a Russian-US joint venture enterprise, Macomnet was formed by the Moscow metro underground railway administration, Metropolitan and Andrew Corp of Chicago. Andrew is engaged in a similar project in St Petersburg, which is planned to be launched before the end of the year.
