The Macintosh may not be quite as much of a lost cause as most people now assume, Computer Intelligence Associates Inc finds – and the first firm signs of a resurrection are all down to the Mac cloners. Its Storeboard survey of sales through US dealers show that Mac OS took market share away from Windows in January in the dealer channel and suggests that while Mac OS had only 8% in November, leaving 92% for all Windows, it had clambered up to 9% in December and to 11% in January, pushing Windows back to 89%. The figures are for unit sales at over 1,100 US dealers and retailers. Mac OS sales in January 1987 were found to be up by 61.4% on a year ago, with Windows off by 5.1%.
