Mac clones are bursting out all over, and Round Rock, Texas-based Power Computing Inc has a new PowerCenter Pro line that is about 30% faster than the Macs Apple Computer Inc unveiled a week ago, and at lower prices. The new machines use the more capable PowerPC 604e at 180MHz to 210MHz, but those parts are said to outperform the 603e processor despite the latter being clocked at up to 300MHz. The PowerCenter Pros also use a 60MHz bus where Apple’s buses are clocked at 40MHz to 50MHz. They start at $2,100 and $2,400 respectively where Apple’s fastest new machines will be available in limited quantities in the spring, and cost about $3,000. The PowerCenter Pros offer 1Mb of level 2 cache, built-in three-dimensional hardware graphics acceleration, a 16 times standard speed CD-ROM drive, 16Mb memory, 2Gb disk and bundled software.
