Lycos Rhapsody will offer three tiers of service to customers. Customers can either sign up for a free radio service providing 20 channels of FM quality sound or sign up for access to 50 commercial free radio stations providing CD quality sound for $4.95 per month. Subscribers can also sign up for unlimited streams of individual songs, plus access to the aforementioned 50 radio stations for a charge of $9.95 per month.

San Francisco based Listen.com will provide the majority of the new services content. Lycos is a major partner of Listen.com, which has deals with many of the world’s largest record labels to provide streamed CD quality music and sound. Listen.com has deals with BMG, Sony Music Entertainment, EMI and Warner Music Group. The deals will give users of Lycos Rhapsody access to a number of big name artists such as Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Lopez, Lauren Hill and Bruce Springsteen.

The launch of new service is the latest stage of Terra Lycos’ strategy to entice more users to use the Lycos portal’s subscription based content. Lycos is a subsidiary of the Spanish communications company, Terra Lycos.
