Two software development companies concentrating on Borland International Inc’s Delphi software environment, have come together to create a third. Luxent Development Corp, a Los Angeles, California-based company described as a software integration company, has acquired the exclusive worldwide publishing rights for software from DFL Software Inc in Paris, France and Toronto, Canada, and SuccessWare International Inc in Temecula, California. DFL’s best-known product is the LightLib middleware for AS/400s, and it also has a Business 3D Graphics Server. SuccessWare has developed the Apollo high performance database engine for Delphi. Luxent says it will integrate the software into a new set of Active-X component suites to provide graphical database systems for professional and corporate software developers. SuccessWare chief executive Jeff Jochum becomes chief executive officer of Luxent in the US, while Marc Schillaci, former president of DFL Software, becomes president of Luxent Europe. No financial details were given. The company did promise to announce further details of the merger, and a preview of its new product plans at the Borland Developer Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, beginning next week. Luxent will maintain offices in California and Paris, and has its main research and development facilities in Provence, France.
