Although Lucent did not disclose the size of the deal, Computer Business Review understands that it will account for the majority of the 1bn euros ($1.3bn) to 1.5bn euros ($1.9bn) that KPN has previously earmarked to spend on its IP program.

As part of the deal, Lucent will provide KPN with program management, network design and planning, integration, and migration services, as well as security, network and process redesign consultancy services for both the network infrastructure and the related IT systems.

Lucent is currently handling multi-billion dollar network upgrade projects with Sprint Corp and Verizon Wireless, and is also a key equipment supplier on BT’s 21CN modernization program.
