LUCENT USES WESTELL ADSL TECHNOLOGY FOR ITS CARRIER SYSTEMS

By CBR Staff Writer

Lucent Technologies Inc has turned to a second DSL digital subscriber line provider to add technology to it products. Lucent says it will add Westell Technologies Inc’s ADSL technology to its digital local loop carrier systems. According to Lucent, this will result in it offering DSL products by the second quarter of 1998 that are capable of transmitting data at speeds of up to 6Mbps to residential customers. Lucent said its systems would be designed to work with Westell modems located in the customer’s home or business. Lucent has already announced plans to incorporate DSL technology developed by Paradyne Corp.
