LUCENT FORMS COMPANY TO EXPLOIT NEW CHIP TECHNOLOGY

By CBR Staff Writer

Lucent Technologies Inc, its Bell Labs research and development arm and venture capital firm US Venture Partners Inc have formed a new company, Veridicom Inc to provide identification-centered security systems for networks based on Lucent’s new silicon chip technology. Lucent says the chip has 900,000 individual sensors on its surface and can read a fingerprint and send it to a computer running software that analyzes it and verifies the user’s identity across a network. Lucent sees the formation of the new firm as significant because it claims that it is the first time it has spun out one of its technologies.
