Under terms of the agreement, Lucent will supply its 3G-ready Flexent family of network switches, base stations and software, which will enable Telesp Celular to rapidly introduce high-speed instant messaging, wireless Web browsing and streaming video services without substantial future investment in new base station equipment.
Customers are demanding both high quality voice and innovative data services and we will be the first mobile operator in Brazil to satisfy these demands, said Carlos Vasconcellos, president of Telesp Celular, in a statement to the press.
