LSI Logic Corp is looking to profit from the expected boom in Chinese digital consumer electronics market with the announcement of three China-based ventures this week. The company is opening a design center in Beijing, which will produce custom chipset kits for set-top boxes, digital video disk (DVD) players and digital cameras, tailored for the Chinese market. Meanwhile, the company has struck a deal with Beijing-based with DSP Center, a consumer electronics design company to provide technical support for Chinese OEM customers. LSI has also signed an agreement with Singapore’s Thakral Corp Ltd to collaborate on the development of a DVD player manufacturing kit for the Chinese market. The kits will be manufactured from the fourth quarter of this year at Thakral’s plant in Shanghai.
