Milpitas, California-based LSI Logic Corp has expanded its LCA100K Compacted Array Plus Series of 0.7-micron channel length HCMOS gate arrays. The series now consists of 12 masterslices ranging from 3,700 to 235,000 available gates, with up to 438 signal input-output pads on a single chip and up to three layers of metalisation. The expansion of th efamily is in response to the growing need for smaller array sizes that can still give high performance. These will be of particular interest to the graphics, military and telecommunications markets, LSI Logic reckons. The LCA100K series comes in a range of package options, including LSI Logic’s alternative to traditional high pin count ceramics, the Tape Quad Flat Pack (with up to 524 leads), and industry standard pin grid arrays. Logic also provides a design library for the LCA100K series, which has over 1,000 elements for a variety of development machines, including Sun, Apollo and Mentor Graphics workstations. One of the main advantages of the new additions to the LCA 100K series is the improved price performance ratio, LSI Logic says, suggesting that this will mean customers who design in its LCA100K devices now will realise production component cost savings by 1990.
