Do you believe in Global Warming? Well yes, it’s a powerful concept that persuades people to alter their behaviour, so I believe in it just like I believe in Santa Claus – but the lack of any scientific evidence for it must be a little disconcerting for all those manufacturers piously touting their machines as conforming to the Energy Star specifications: it’s pretty clear that global warming will very soon follow nuclear winter into the archives of the Flat Earth Society, and manufacturers will be forced to fall back on promoting their low power consumption machines by discreditably appealing to people’s low and base self-interest and saying that they simply save you money by reducing your electricity bill.
