The Louisville Health Information Exchange is a consortium consisting of doctors, hospitals, employers, and government groups who aim to implement an eHealth system for the Louisville community, maximizing information technology’s potential for improving health care. The group is driving forward plans by inviting vendors to submit proposals for building and operating the necessary information systems.
The group envisions the implementation of a network that would allow doctors or other caregivers to retrieve patient records, view drug allergies or see results of recent scans done at another hospital. Other anticipated benefits of the network include a reduction in medical errors and costs.
The Louisville Journal suggested that if plans continued to run smoothly and adequate numbers of employers and other parties sign on, the network could be in operation by next January.
