Philips Electronics NV’s recently established communications and services division is to offer Lotus Development Corp’s Notes group communication software as a value added reseller and General Motors Corp’s Electronic Data Systems division has a similar contract for Notes; the deal was struck by Lotus’s international division and is described as worldwide, yet excludes the US, Japan and Canada, although Lotus adds that discussions are now going on between the local divisions of each company in those markets left out by the contract; Lotus Notes software is to be supplied on top of Philips’ multi-protocol network and network management software; the division is also ready to supply SNA-based systems and services, but has decided not do so together with Notes, IBM has already signed for Notes.
