LOTUS DEVELOPMENT WARNS THAT THIRD QUARTER PROFITS MAY BE DOWN

By CBR Staff Writer

Lotus Development Corp begins to look as if it will need all the money it can get from its lawsuit against Borland International Inc if it manages to win it: Lodus warns that the excitement from 1-2-3 3.0 and 2.2 is already wearing off and that third quarter profits may be down, and Richard Sherlund at Goldman, Sachs & Co told the Wall Street Journal that while he reckons that Lotus is selling 120,000 new copies and 25,000 upgrades a month, Borland is catching up, doing 45,000 copies of Quattro Pro a month, and Micosoft Corp getting 35,000 Excels away a month.
