LOTUS DELAYS NOTES ONCE AGAIN UNTIL LATE MARCH

By CBR Staff Writer

Lotus Development Corp has delayed the introduction of Notes Release 5 once again, and now says it won’t be shipping the new products, which include Domino and Domino Designer, until late March. Originally expected by the end of last year, IBM Corp’s Lotus unit put back the shipment date until February after the start of public beta test program was delayed from last August until October (CI No 3,488). The beta process is said to have generated a large amount of feedback from beta testers. In January, at LotusSphere, attendees were told that Notes 5, which includes around nine million lines of code, was on track for February availability. Now the company says that the software still requires more testing. Notes hasn’t seen a major upgrade since version 4.6 was released in 1997. The new version includes user interface and internet connectivity additions.
