At the Lotus Europe 98 event in Berlin, Lotus Development Corp has announced two new add-ons for its Domino.Doc electronic document management (EDM) server – the Domino.Doc Imaging Client and Storage Manager. The Imaging Client allows users to scan and store paper documents with optical character recognition (OCR) features based on Xerox Textbridge OCR technology. Once the document has been scanned in, annotation and mark-up features allow margin notes and other commentary. The Storage Manager allows less frequently used documents to be archived to off-line storage devices such as tape and optical disk, saving disk storage space. Storage Manager is based on IBM Corp’s Adstar Distributed Storage Manager (ADSM) software (CI No 2,674). Lotus has not yet announced prices for the two new products but a Lotus spokesperson said that extensions such as these are typically priced at the server, and are expected to be available in the fourth quarter. Meantime, Lotus has announced that it plans to launch Chinese, traditional Chinese, Korean and Japanese language versions of Domino.Doc 2.0. The EDM server is currently available in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Brazilian versions.
