Following its move to acquire personal computer database developer Approach Software Inc in June (CI No 2,185), Lotus Development Corp has wasted no time in adding the Approach database to its SmartSuite for Windows applications bundle, which now integrates five applications. SmartSuite 2.1 for Windows incorporates Approach 2.1 for Windows, 1-2-3 Release 4 spreadsheet, Ami Pro 3.01 word processor, Freelance Graphics 2.01 presentation graphics software, and the Lotus Organizer 1.1 personal information manager. It ships next week at a promotional upgrade price of $300 until year-end, after which it goes to $600. New users pay $800, but get a discount for volume purchases including Notes.
