Borland International Inc reports that a federal court ruled that Lotus Development Corp’s Lotus 1-2-3 spreadsheet display is able to be copyrighted – bad news for Borland, but the Scotts Valley company adds that said the ruling in Boston’s Federal District Court will not affect Borland’s ability to continue shipping its spreadsheet products – its versions of Quattro Pro and Quattro Pro for Windows have not contained the Lotus 1-2-3-compatible menu component that was the basis of the three-year-old copyright case; Judge Robert Keeton ruled that the menu component in the discontinued versions of Quattro Pro violated Lotus copyright.
