International discount telecommunications firm Long Distance International Inc has launched a new wireless division which will concentrate on PCS, cellular, wireless local loop, and global satellite services. LDI is a re-seller of telecommunications services, and has been operating in the international call back and discount long distance markets since it was founded two years ago. The new division, LDI Wireless, is launching its first product, a pre-paid cellular phone service, next month in the US cities of Tampa, San Diego, and Houston. It plans to develop and resell its other planned services over the next two years, and for its wireless division to make up 15% of its total revenues. Privately owned and funded LDI has current revenues of $100m, and estimates that it will have built is revenues up to $1bn by 2001.
