The London Internet Exchange (LINX) has selected Juniper Networks’ PTX Series Packet Transport Switch for its production network to manage higher traffic levels resulting from digital content and the mobile Internet growth.

Juniper said the implementation of PTX Series Packet Transport Switch will be carried out by Juniper’s partner Telindus, a storage and network services provider.

The PTX5000 Packet Transport Switch will be centred on LINX’s network that provides data, video and voice connectivity to mobile and fixed connection users.

With a system capacity of 8 Tbps, the PTX5000 Packet Transport Switch supports large density of high-speed interfaces within a single chassis to support simultaneous demand.

Juniper’s PTX Series Packet Transport Switch is based on an HDTV stream running at 25 Mbps and can forward 2,500 hours of original TV broadcast coverage in less than one minute.

LINX’s 10 Points of Presence (PoPs) across London are connected by Juniper Networks MX Series 3D Universal Edge Routers, the first phase of LINX’s new network deployment which went live in late 2011.

The PTX Series and MX Series run on Juniper’s Junos operating system, ensuring that LINX’s network platform is streamlined, cost-effective and easy to maintain.

LINX is a mutually-owned membership association for operators of Internet Protocol networks and one of the world’s largest Internet Exchanges. LINX’s infrastructure provides connectivity for high-profile events streamed online in addition to everyday content upload and download demand.
