Logitech has extended its line of multimedia speakers, delivering four new systems that reportedly deliver “360-degree sound”. The company claimed that, unlike standard PC speakers that use forward-firing drivers, the four new speaker systems feature omnidirectional acoustics, which creates a ‘wider sweet spot’ – a feature for users who move their computers around home or office.

With speaker drivers that face forward and backwards in each satellite, the four new speakers are designed to transmit sound consistently over a wider range of space. The new line of models include four speaker systems – Z320, Z323, Z520 and Z523.

According to the company, the Z523 speaker system includes two sleek satellites and a 6.5-inch down-firing subwoofer, and comes with 40 watts (RMS) of power. Both Z523 and Z323 multimedia speakers include an integrated dual RCA jack along with a 3.5mm jack, so that users can connect headphones, Squeezebox network music player – a gaming console, DVD player or iPod. Z323 provides 30 watts (RMS) power.

Mark Schneider, vice president and general manager of Logitech’s audio business unit, said: “Many PC speakers focus sound in one direction, which is fine if you’re always sitting in the same spot. But now with 360-Degree Sound, whether you’re listening to your favourite song on iTunes, watching a video on YouTube or playing your favourite game, you can enjoy rich, sound and minimal distortion throughout your room.”

The company noted that the speaker system Z520 brings music, movies and games through an amplified two-way design and 26 watts (RMS) power. This model is suitable for a small party and detailed enough for subtle tones. Suitable for laptops, Z320 can be plugged in wherever users work and it delivers about 10 watts (RMS) sound.

The models Z320 and Z323 are expected to be available in the US and Europe for a price of $69.99 in August and September, respectively. The Z523 model is expected to be available in the US and Europe beginning in July for a price of $99.99, and Z520 is also expected to be available in July for a price of $129.99.
